A lot of money is being invested today in traveling; cruise lines, holiday resort package deals, and aviation can easily run into thousands of dollars and if you have invested some of that money on a trip and can chance losing it all. Even now, many tourists do not believe that the cost of travel insurance is worthwhile and put everything at risk by traveling without it.
If you think about all the possible things that can happen to either stop you from traveling or from having a pleasant vacation, the small financial outlay, generally less than ten percent of the vacation cost, it is well worth it to have some peace of mind. An illness, accident or other unforeseen circumstance can force a traveler to cancel or interrupt their policies and that instance they face two major losses: nonrefundable deposits and medical expenses not covered by insurance.
Other situations that can occur are when you cannot actually keep your reservation and of course the entire amount you have paid on the holiday will be lost. Most travel insurance will cover holiday cancellation, trip interruption or delays, medical examination, dental, emergency medical transportation, lost luggage, accidental death, financial default of airlines, and cruise lines.
Sometimes a traveler must cancel their vacation and this could result in a traveler losing nonrefundable deposits and prepayments that add up to hundreds if not thousands of dollars. A good travel insurance plan should provide trip cancellation coverage for the traveler’s vacation investment and the insurance firm should reimburse the traveler for all pre-paid, nonrefundable expenses.
Most vacation cancellation plans also include refunds when a trip is interrupted and will include other trips that deposits have been made for. Unfortunately, act of terrorism seem to be something we have to live with and many travel insurance companies are coming to terms with this but they are not all the same in this regard thus you must look for one that will cover for both domestic and foreign incidents.
Overall, the cost of travel insurance is cheap but it will rise according to the age of the individuals it is covering. Always a fear with people is whether the person they have booked the vacation with will still be operating when they travel but if you have arranged your travel insurance within 15 days of paying the deposit you should be able to claim back all costs if they cease trading.
Always check for duplicate coverage as there are a few types of insurance related to travel that you may not need because you are covered from other sources which could include your health insurance, life insurance or even your car plan, may have limited coverage. In this position there is no need to have two insurance policies that will provide the same cover as the only individuals who benefit from this are the insurance underwriters. The fine print on policies can be puzzling but is necessary to check as you may be laboring under the false belief that you are covered on areas of the travel insurance for another insurance plan but are not insured at all.
